As a kid growing up in the 80s and 90s, Tina Turner was an inspiration as a performer and artist, a woman, and as an undeniable talent whose words are timeless. Tina stands for courage, resilience, and overcoming gigantic obstacles. Through the pandemic, I would blare some Tina tunes in my third floor studio at home, after homeschooling, of course! She got me through a tough time. Music like visual art has the ability to transcend the current moment and encourage us to rise to the challenges ahead with confidence. I love listening to music from previous eras as the words and melodies carry us through no matter what year it is. Tina Turner will certainly be missed, but may she Rest In Peace!
The 23K gold leaf silhouette assembled over the copper and 23K gold pattern is my tribute to the beautifully unique individual who continued to show us "love and compassion" was the way. Her iconic, bold hair style, endless energy in her performances, and a voice that few can mimic are her legacy. I attempted to capture her stage presence in this 22x18 metal leaf collage on deckled edge 140 lb. watercolor paper.
